What Is the Best Bar/Bat Mitzvah Gift You've Seen?
I recently wrote a blog post about my trip to my niece's bat mitzvah in Seattle and the gift that I gave her. I always like to give a gift that has meaningful so I opted for a pomegranate necklace that my niece just loved. I explained that the pomegranate is one of the 7 species of which the land of Israel was blessed, and is a symbol of abundance and new beginnings. A legend arose within Judaism that each and every pomegranate contained 613 seeds, representing the 613 commandments of Torah. Here is a link to my blog post with info about the gift.
What Is the Worst Bar/Bat Mitzvah Gift You've Seen?
The worst Bar and Bat Mitzvah gifts are those that clearly did not have any thought put into them. The importance of this day in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah's life should not be underestimated. This day has taken years of preparation and devotion on the part of the bat/bar mitzvah. On this day the young person formally becomes a son or daughter of the commandment and the gift should reflect this.
Advice
- I learned that the best bar and bat mitzvah gifts are those that a person will have forever (unlike a monetary gift) and one that will remind them of their faith. An item that has symbolism is all the better because if there is a story that goes with the item, the gift giving becomes an opportunity for learning.
