Maariv on Yom Kippur

Maariv prayer service on Yom Kippur differs from Maariv on other evenings in that it includes selichot (penitential prayers) and the confessional (the confessional is said ten times on Yom Kippur). When we say "ashamnu" (we have trespassed) and "al chet" (for the sin), it is customary to beat our breasts because it is said our hearts are the source of our sins. On Yom Kippur, "Baruch Shem" (Bless God) is said out loud in contrast to the rest of the year when it is whispered. Maariv ends with "Avinu Malkanu" (Our Father, Our King). When evening prayers end, we should maintain a solemn spirit.
