This recipe for Chocolate Chip Applesauce Cake is pareve (non-dairy) and festive, so it is the perfect dessert to serve on Shabbat.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz (50 gm) margarine (pareve)
- 1 ¾ cups sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 3 ½ Tbsp. baking cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Preparation:
1. Cream margarine, sugar and eggs.2. Mix in the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt)
3. Mix in applesauce.
4. Mix in half of the chocolate chips (2/3 cup).
5. Pour into a greased cake pan.
6. Top with the rest of the chocolate chips (2/3 cup) and 1 Tbsp. sugar.
7. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45-60 minutes.
