Question: Does Judaism permit unveilings between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur?

Dear Rabbi,
My mother died earlier this year and we would like to hold her unveiling in September. Does Judaism permit holding an unveiling ceremony between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur? Or would it be better to have the unveiling the day after Yom Kippur?
Thank you, Robbi

Answer: Dear Robbi,

Holding an unveiling between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is very appropriate.

Indeed, visiting a cemetery at that time of year is something we are all encouraged to do. We are taught that prayers offered while visiting our deceased love ones can have added influence before God that He bless us with a good year!

The day after Yom Kippur is also fine.!
