Question: Does Judaism permit cosmetic surgery?

Dear Rabbi,
Does Judaism allow a woman allowed to have plastic surgery (on her eyelids)?
Sarah

Answer: Dear Sarah,

As a general rule cosmetic surgery is generally frowned upon from a Torah perspective, especially when undertaken strictly for vanity. In the event that there are additional reasons for your decision, such as an embarrassing or humiliating facial feature or the like, then there is certainly room to permit it.

Wishing you well,
