Question: What is the purpose of pain in our lives?

Rabbi Berg,
What the purpose of pain in our lives? My Mom suffers from scoliosis and osteoporosis and is in pain almost every day. She is a compassionate and courageous woman. She has an enormous amount of faith and is always optimistic and thankful for everything. Her pain brings tears to my eyes every day.
Thank you for your answer, prayers, and help, Barbara

Answer: Dear Barbara,

Thank you for your email, and I'm sorry to hear your mother is in such great pain. Pain can come to us for various reasons, and there is no absolute. Many times it comes to cleanse negativity of previous incarnations and even this one; other times it comes to help us expand our vessel and therefore our capacity to experience Light. We know that anything difficult for the body is joy for the soul. While this is hard to comprehend intellectually, we know this is a great spiritual truth. Pain helps us break the negative shells (klipot) that conceal the Light within us from truly being expressed.

We can most definitely put your mother on our healing list. It would be of great help if you could provide us with your mother's name (Hebrew or Yiddish names would be best).

Blessings and Light,
Michael Berg
