Question: What is the best way to start learning about Kabbalah?
Rabbi Berg,
In reading about Kabbalah I have learned that it is not a good idea to "delve in to the mysteries of your religion" without having a strong understanding of the Torah. I find reading the Torah very
difficult. I want to learn more, but I don't know where to start. What do you recommend?
Thank you, Andy
Answer: Dear Andy,
One of the greatest misconceptions about Kabbalah is that it is "too holy" for the masses, or that one must reach a certain level in order to benefit from its teachings. There could be nothing further from the truth. In respect to the Torah, the Torah is the "what", while the
Zohar is the "why". The best introduction I can recommend is either "The Power of Kabbalah" or "The Way" - which will give you the basic principles,
context and history of Kabbalah that you need to get started. Bu if
you'd like to learn more about Kabbalah and the Torah, I strongly recommend "The Kabbalistic Bible". It is filled with insights and understandings that are taken directly from the Zohar, related to the
weekly Torah portions.
Blessings and Light,
Michael Berg
