Question: What are the best books for learning about Kabbalah?

Rabbi Berg,
I am interested in reading the Kabbalah, however when I go to the bookstore I seem to find all sorts of books about it but not the actual book of Kabbalah. Can you offer a suggestion about this for me? I am not looking to be a part of a "fad" or be someone who follows the stars with their "red string bracelets", but I would like to explore what the Kabbalah is about.
Thank you, Suzanne

Answer: Dear Suzanne,

Anytime anyone refers to or quotes “The Kabbalah”, they are referring to The Zohar, which was written approximately 2000 years ago by the great kabbalist Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. I always recommend that before beginning with the Zohar, one should begin with a more introductory level book, so as to acquaint themselves with the terminology and concepts that run throughout the wisdom of Kabbalah – like “The Way” or “The Power of Kabbalah”. It is also recommended that one study the Zohar under the guidance of a qualified Kabbalah instructor, who can help you make the Zohar’s wisdom and principles a practical and positive addition to your life and your spiritual journey.

Blessings and Light,
Michael Berg
