Should we send invitations to an unveiling ceremony?

Question: Should we send invitations to an unveiling ceremony?

Dear Rabbi,
We will be having an unveiling for my mother's grave. My father and I are not sure of the proper way to notify people. Do we send out cards? And, if so, what should they say? We don't want anyone to feel offended that they were not notified, yet it seems strange to be sending out "invitations" for such a sad occasion.
Thank you, Meryll

Answer: Dear Meryll,

Yes, cards are appropriate but not required. They are not invitations per se, but rather announcements letting people know when and where the unveiling will take place.

I am sorry for your loss and pray that the coming year bring you joys in a world at peace.

Best Wishes,
Rabbi Dov
