Question: On Yom Kippur, should I light one Yahrzeit candle for each parent or for both?

Dear Rabbi,
When lighting Yahrzeit candles for my parents on Yom Kippur, do I light one candle for each or both of them?
Thank you, David

Answer: Dear David,

Thanks for writing.

To the best of my experience and knowledge, it is the prevailing custom to light a candle for each person whom you are recalling at Yizkor (Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Pesah, Shavuot) and one each of course on their "individual" yahrzeit. In your case I would light two at Yizkor times, one for each.

Best wishes and may there only be comforting memories for you and your loved ones.
Rabbi Dov
