Question: Does Jewish Law allow visiting a Jewish grave before the unveiling ceremony?

Dear Rabbi,
Can I visit a grave before the unveiling? A related question, can I visit the grave of my father and grandparents in a family plot before the unveiling of my mother who is also buried there? Finally, between shloshim and 12 months following the burial, are there dates when you can't --or must--have an unveiling?
Regard, Barbara

Answer: Dear Barbara,

With minor exception you can visit a cemetery or grave on virtually all weekdays before or after the unveiling.

Unveilings too can be held almost always with the exceptions of days that have a festive character, such as Rosh Chodesh, Purim, or Chol Hamo'ed.

In any event -- I personally recommend unveilings take place sooner rather then later.

Hope this helps!
