Question: Are there Jewish traditions about burying a husband and wife together?

Dear Rabbi,
Is there any established tradition or ritual regarding the position of husband and wife in the burial plots? Is there a tradition for one or the other being buried to the left or right of their spouse?
Regard, Bruce

Answer: Dear Bruce,

Jewish cemeteries generally have two formats for burial. Either there are separate men and women sections or else the burial take place in a husband/wife format of male, female, female, male, male, etc.

I know of no particular significance as to which spouse is best buried on the left or right side of the other.
