Question

I'd like to get married this fall, on Sept. 28, 2002. However, it appears that is Shemini Atzeret. What days/times may I not be married on?

Answer

First of all -- Mazal Tov! That weekend is problematic because Sunday is Simchat Torah, another day when we don't have weddings. In general, any Saturday wedding would only be able to begin the wedding 45 minutes after sundown, which at that time of year (depending on your city) is probably around 6:45 pm (standard time; an hour later if it's still daylight savings time). Maybe a Sunday wedding would be better?
