Question

Cover our eyes when we recite the Shema?

Answer

The reason why we cover the eyes for Shma, is because we should be able to concentrate better when we read the Shma, as per our obligation to read it in the morning and evening with special concentration. ("Code of Jewish Law" O.C. 61:5)

With blessings from Jerusalem,
