Question

Can I change my last name. Is it considered a disrespectful act to my lineage to make this change?

Answer

If your living parents do not object your changing the family name, you may do so. If you have solid reasons for changing, you may do it even against their will, but it is by far better to do it with their consent - (source: "Code of Jewish Law" Y.D. 240:25).
