Question

Aren't the Jews supposed to wait for their Messiah to lead them back to Israel?

Answer

The Talmud (Ketubot) says that after the destruction of the Holy Temple, the Jewish people should not go en masse to Israel and take the land by force.

Some scholars says this applies to the State of Israel today. The vast majority of rabbis say that this doesn't apply today for a variety of technical reasons, or that the UN acceptance of the Partition Plan means that our return to the land was not "by force."

The Messiah will indeed usher in the full spiritual return of the Jewish people, as well as brining in the remaining Jews from lands of exile.

With blessings from Jerusalem,
