Question
I am Jewish, but I would like to learn everything about the Jews. Their religion, ways of life, history, culture, everything. I would appreciate it if you would e-mail me back with information about books, articles, class, etc.
Answer
Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts. I see you have a great thirst for the Jewish heritage!
The best way to learn about Judaism is to live near a Jewish community which has adult education programs, rabbis you can talk to one-on-one, Shabbat hospitality programs, etc.
If that is not an option, then try Torah education websites, such as http://aish.com, where you can sign up to have email lists delivered. While commuting or cooking, you can also listen to classes on audio cassette. There are thousands of titles available at 1-800-VOICES-3.
In general, where should you start?
Believing in God is the primary commandment in Judaism.
Who is God?
God is the Creator of the world who spoke to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai.
A good way to bring that concept into your life is through prayer. Open your heart to Him and He will surely help. As it says: "God is close to all who call sincerely" (Psalms 145:18).
Also, it is very important to attend a Discovery seminar. That frequently can make a big jump-start in becoming interested and involved. The seminar is given in hundreds of cities throughout the world. For a current schedule, email discovery.usa@aish.com.
