Question

Over the years Jewish people were constantly persecuted and oppressed. All the
rulers of the world together and alone have tried to find a way to wipe out
the Jewish Nation, but yet, we still survive. We outlived Romans, Greeks,
Nazi's, Babylonians and still thrive. Other nations came into this world,
filled it with glory and splendor and then died out or dissappeared. But Jews,
this small, mysterious nation have managed to survive and to keep their
identity through ages, breaking all the rules of history. We gave the religion
to over 3/4 of the world, yet our numbers are smaller than the smallest error
in Chinese census. How is it possible that such minority of a nation can
survive in such a hostile environment. It seems that we have always remained
constant and unchanging in the eyes of history. Rabbi, what is the secret of
our immortality.
Artur, 16

Answer

Great question!

Simple answer.

God promised Abraham:

"And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your
descendants after you throughout their generations, an eternal
covenant, to be your God and the God of the descendants after
you." (Genesis 17:7)

God can defy all the "laws of nature" because, after all, He's
the one who made them in the first place.

The story is told of King Louis XIV asking the philosopher Pascal
for some proof of a supernatural force in the world. "Why, the
Jews, your majesty," Pascal answered, "The Jews."

The Passover holiday is our enduring remembrance of the Jewish
ability to beat all the odds. With God's help.
