Question

What is the the general view of Judaism on the subject of Democracy?

Answer

Although the Jewish nation in biblical times had a monarchy, and will have one with the coming of Messiah, the king has to be very considerate of the people. He has to treat the judicial system with high regard and respect. Thus, the king in essence is a democratic ruler, who is checked by the judicial system (Sanhedrin) - (source: "Maimonides" Laws of Kings 3:5-6).
