Question

Good morning! For the first time last night I participated in the Seder with 2 friends of mine who are Jewish. I had one question that went unanswered: What is the significance of covering and uncovering of the matza? Is it functional or symbolic? Does it have anything to do with the 10 plagues or is there a more symbolic meaning? Thank you

Answer

Believe it or not, the only purpose of covering and uncovering the matzah is to prompt participants to ask the exact question you asked, in order to engage them in discussing the story of the Exodus!

With blessings from Jerusalem,
