Question: Can I get married during Chol HaMoed Sukkot?
Can I get married during Chol Hamoed Sukkot? I know that the first days and last days of the Sukkot week are considered yuntiv (holy days). But I thought that perhaps a Conservative Rabbi might be able to perform my wedding during the middle days of the holiday week (Chol HaMoed)?
Answer: The Conservative Movement, quoting various sources, supports the tradition of not having any wedding on Festivals (Sukkot) and also not on Hol HaMoed because of the principle that "rejoicing should not be merged/confused with another rejoicing". Or in the words of Rabbi Isaac Klein, z"l, "the joy of the festive period should not be overshadowed" (T. B. Moed Katan 8b; E.H. 64:6; O.H. 546:1 in Taz and M.A.)
