Question

How does the Jewish community feel are about cohabitating couples?

Answer

Cohabiting couples / pre-marital sex violates Jewish law - from the laws of modesty through all laws of sexual relations.

Yet, the Conservative movement has written a monograph on the issue of pre-marital sex, that seeks to discriminate between a meaningful, sacred relationship and just simple promiscuity. This monograph is available from United Synagogue, 155 Fifth Avenue, NY 10010, 212-533-7800. I believe that the more liberal movements in Judaism would also take such an approach.

Research that I have read shows that cohabitation before marriage does not assure a more successful marriage.
