Question

Could you recommend a good English translation of the Psalms.

Answer

I recommend the TaNaKH, produced over the course of years by multiple Bible scholars translating directly from the Hebrew into English by the Jewish Publication Society, for not only Psalms but for the most trustworthy translation of all books of the Hebrew Bible.

There are, of course, other reliable Jewish translations from the original Hebrew and commentaries, and there are out-of-date translations but nonetheless have very reliable commentaries, e.g. the Soncino publication of the Hebrew Bible in multiple volumes. The translation is a 1917 adaptation, Judaized correction of the King James translation, but with wonderful notes by major and significant commentators from the high Middle Ages into the 20th century.

  Best Wishes,
