Sara Atzmon's Art Gallery
Glorious Brothers, 1992
My neighbors
in Bergen-Belsen were Dutch Jews, among them Anna Frank. But I never met them until after
they had been killed. They died by the hundreds. They were naked, and I will always
remember the special color of their skin - yellowish gray - from being locked away from
the sun for years. They were the models for my work, but I never succeeded in reproducing
the color of their skin. Maybe I did not want to.
