Isaac

Isaac (Yitzhak) was one of the Patriarchs (Avot) of the Jewish People.

Isaac was the son of Abraham (Avraham) and Sarah. He willingly cooperated while his father obeyed God's commandment and tied him to an altar to be sacrificed (Akeidah).

Isaac was successful as a farmer and cattle-breeder, and he made peace with the Philistines in Beersheba (Beersheva).

Isaac married Rebecca (Rivka) and had two sons, Jacob (Yaacov) and Esau (Esav). His blindness and Rebecca's cunning meant that his blessing went mistakenly to his younger son, Jacob. After his sons had reconciled, Isaac died at the age of 180 and was buried by them in the cave of Machpelah (Hebron).

While the Bible does not describe Isaac as being heroic, he is remembered for his trust in God and patience. He was a good husband and a tiller of the earth.
