Hizballah (Party of God)

This radical Shia group is strongly anti-West and anti-Israel, and it opposes Middle East peace negotiations.

Known or suspected to have been involved in numerous anti-US terrorist attacks:

  • suicide truck bombing of the US Embassy and US Marine barracks in Beirut - October 1983
  • suicide bombing of the US Embassy annex in Beirut - September 1984
  • kidnapping and detention of US and other Western hostages in Lebanon
  • bombing of Israeli Embassy in Argentina - 1992
  • bombing of the Israeli cultural center in Buenos Aires - 1994
  • Kidnapping and killing of three Israeli soldiers in the Shabaa Farms – 2000
  • Kidnapping and killing of Israeli businessman – 2000

    Hizballah receives substantial amounts of financial, training, weapons, explosives, political, diplomatic, and organizational aid from Iran and Syria. The group includes several thousand supporters and a few hundred terrrorist cells in Beirut, southern Lebanon, Europe, Africa, South America, North America, and Asia.
