Jerusalem, Yerushalayim in Hebrew and Al Quds in Arabic, is the capital and largest city of Israel. The city is considered a holy city by adherents of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; it contains sites sacred to all three religions. In honor of Jerusalem Day (June 2, 2008), enjoy these photos of Jerusalem's Old City.Photo © 2007 Lisa Katz, licensed to About.com, Inc

Cyrus- Kūrash II the Great, founder of the Persian (Iran) Empire recognized the right of the Jewish people to return from the Babylonian exile to their land, the land of Israel. He also encouraged and participated in financing the reconstruction of the Second Temple- Beth Hamikdash in Yerushalayim. It is time for all world’s leaders to remind the Iranians the values of their own historical facts. Cyrus-Kūrash II the Great was and is their most admired and beloved ruler. He is commemorated in all Iranian historical events. The Iranians should remember and change their hostile attitude towards the people that recreated at that time their homeland and defended the south-western border of the Persian Empire against a potential Egyptian threat. They should be recalled that Yehudim- the name of the Jewish people in hebrew emanated from the coins produced by Cyrus-Kūrash II the Great with the name YEHUD in Araméen engraved on those coins that became the currency of the land of Israel. They should be recalled that the Achaemenian jewelry was produced by Jewish artisans in the land of Israel and propagated all over the Empire and the neighboring kingdoms. They should realize that instead of rushing blindly towards the sharp edge of catastrophy,by claiming each day their wish to destroy the State of Israel, they should regain the realistic spirit and acts of Cyrus-Kūrash II the Great and participate positively towards a global “Mutual Understanding”- perhaps towards “Peace”? in the region where to much human blood impregnates its soil.
Yerusha-la-yim may be translated from hebrew as being “Yerusha”-inheritance;”la”-for the
“yim”- Ye(hud)im ! The capital of the State of Israel.
